Carphone Warehouse

Carphone Warehouse
The client
Opal telecommunications of Irlam, Manchester, a Carphone Warehouse company.

Premises
Existing 2 story office block in Birchwood Warrington formerly occupied by ICL

Building use
Call centre with 300 Carphone Warehouse staff on the ground floor and 300 Opal staff on the first floor. Includes a restaurant, chill out room and gym.

Mechanical Services
Both floors were served by a ceiling mounted, fan coil heat pump VRV system (operating with R407c refrigerant) with the external condensing units situated outside the existing East and West plant rooms. Tempered fresh air is supplied directly to the fan coils, by two 5m3/s Envirofresh units situated within the existing East and West plant rooms.

The Envirofresh operates with 50% heat recovery, 3 stage air to air heat pump, and low global warming, hydrocarbon refrigerant. The C.O.P. is 6.3.

The use of hydrocarbon refrigerant on the fresh air cooling reduces the quantity of refrigerant (F Gas) used on the project, with global warming potential(GWP).

Contractor
